250 HOUR 8-WEEK YOGA TEACHER TRAINING

REGISTERED YOGA SCHOOL

If a teacher is indeed wise, he does not bid you
enter the house of his wisdom,
but rather leads you
to the threshold of your own mind.

Kahlil Gibran
The Prophet

Welcome to MokSana Yoga Center's Yoga Teacher Traing Program. A 250-hour, 8-week training that is one of the most intensive and comprehensive courses available.

We have been training yoga teachers since 2002 and have over 200 graduates now teaching all over the world and in many different settings. Our program is suitable for those interested in teaching yoga or for those who simply want to deepen their understanding and knowledge of this ancient tradition with profound contemporary applications.

Our program emphasizes a well balanced approach to yoga, enhancing the physical, mental, and emotional components of our being. You do not need to have any particular proficiency in the asanas, as our philosophy is that the person is more important than the posture, and every aspect of yoga, including the poses, must be tailored to each individual's capacities. You will find that MokSana Yoga Center respects these qualities of acceptance, non-judgement, and balance.

The requirements of this program are designed to exceed the Yoga Alliance Teacher Training Certification education standards. MokSana Yoga Center is a registered and approved school of Yoga Alliance. Upon completion of all the requirements of this program, you will receive a teaching certificate and be automatically eligible for Yoga Alliance registry. Visit www.yogaalliance.org for more information.

Upon completion of the program, you will be able to confidently teach Flow (Vinyasa) or Hatha yoga to beginner students.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

We require that each applicant have at least one year of practice and experience with a teacher in a group class setting. For those interested in taking the program to further your own education, we accept students with less than the above requirement. A completed application form is required.   2) Assist - you will be present as a teachers helper, to give out props and to make verbal or physical adjustments as appropriate.
  3) Warm-up - you will teach the warm-up section of a class and stay for the remainder of the class to assist the teacher.

MokSana Teacher Training Faculty:

Jess Freedman

Jess Freedman began studying yoga as a teenager as a way to integrate her interest in the spiritual and the physical. Her path has led her to study with many inspiring teachers from Western and Eastern approaches, including Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, TKV and Kausthub Desikachar, Esther Meyers (Scaravelli), and Angela Farmer (Hatha). Other influences include creative arts, and her Vipassana meditation practice. Jess teaches Flow (Vinyasa), Ashtanga, and Hatha yoga with an emphasis on the subtle growth from within.

Jess has been teaching yoga since 1999 and started the MokSana Teacher Training Program in 2001.

Misha Butot, Ethics and Psychology

Michèle Butot, B.Ed., M.S.W., R.S.W., certified as a yoga instructor in 1998 (500 hours), and is a member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists (E-RYT500). Her practice is influenced by nondualist teachings, and has as its goal wholeness - reunion with our deeper Self

Michèle teaches ethics, philosophy, psychology, preventing and working with injuries, and restorative practices in MokSana’s teacher training program. She is a counsellor with almost twenty years experience, specializing in body-focused integrative counselling.

Norman Sim, Western Anatomy

Former Dean and Instructor at the Canadian College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, Norman has considerable experience instructing and practicing in an alternative health care discipline. He brings over 16 years experience of designing and instructing courses, providing academic advising and mediation to students, and in sports and orthopaedic Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Jules Payne, Asana & Alignment

Jules began her yoga journey as a child, balancing on her head and backbending in acrobatic classes. As an adult she has deepened her awareness with studies of yoga philosophy and meditation, certifying as a yoga instructor at Moksana. Jules teaches hatha, flow and ashtanga yoga.

Jules has studied yoga in England, Mexico, Canada and the United States with a range of inspirational teachers in the ashtanga and anusara hatha yoga traditions. Jules studies vinjana yoga locally with Elizabeth Peckham and is a member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists.

In teaching the asana section of Moksana’s Teacher Training Program, Jules applies universal principles of alignment she has learned from various hatha yoga traditions. She guides new teachers to joyfully connect with their students and create a safe space for exploration.

Jules’ passion for yoga is complimented by 10 years of group facilitation and outreach work with charities in England and in Canada.

Ida Manly, Asana & Alignment

Ida has been practicing yoga for 12 years and has practiced many different styles over the years (Sivananda, Flow, Power Yoga, Hatha, Kripalu) and is currently studying and practicing Anusara. Ida completed her teacher training at Moksana in the summer of 2006. Ida is the managing director of the Centre.

Tatiyana Bastet, Sanskrit, History & Philosophy

Tatiyana Bastet began her yoga journey by toddling across the meditation hall in yellow stretchies. Asana practice was introduced a few years later and all went well until. . . as a teenager she wholeheartedly rebelled against everything – including yoga. Over the next few years it became frustratingly obvious that any and all roads would lead back to her yoga path. In her early twenties she surrendered, and has since been taught and inspired by teachers including: Kate Potter, Stephen Parker, Ingo Beardi, Bachibhai, Siddhi Ma, and Swami Veda. She is a student of Swami Maheshananda.

Tatiyana began her study of Sanskrit and yogic texts in India, where she lived and studied yoga for two years. Tatiyana facilitates pre-registered advanced classes in yogic philosophy, mythology, pranayama, asana and other practises as well as regular Sanskrit intensives.

Adele Worobey, Meditation & Sequencing

Adele Worobey has been interested in yoga and spiritual exploration from a young age. Her interest has lead her to many styles and teachers of yoga, meditation and spiritual thought. In recent years, her practice has brought great change in her life, inspiring her to share her experience with others. She completed the MokSana Teacher Training Program in the spring of 2005 and finds the honour of sharing the benefits of yoga with others a natural compliment to practice as a counsellor and her love of the outdoors.

Clare Mullen ,Sequencing & Practice Teaching

Clare Mullen began her yogic journey twelve years ago in the city of Toronto.  She completed her Teacher Training at Moksana Yoga Centre in the winter of 2003 and has been teaching at the studio ever since.  She continues to study and practise various aspects of yoga and meditation, including Vipassana.  Her passion for teaching is rooted in her wonder at yoga's ability to heal, nourish and inform our lives. She is inspired by her travels throughout Africa, Central America and Canada and draws on her B.A. in philosophy and a B. Ed in Elementary Education to further understand and celebrate life in general.  .

SEE WHAT OUR GRADUATES ARE DOING NOW:

Sheron Jutila, Owner, Karuna Yoga and Dance, Courtnay, BC

Graduated Spring 2004

The Teacher Training Program at Moksana prepared me for life. I really liked the fact that I connected so deeply with the people in my class and we all got along. That made a huge impact in my learning process. It was a safe and nurturing space where all aspects of my yoga practice could be explored and deepened.

The biggest thing the Teacher Training course led to was taking my personal practice to a level I cannot put into words. A year and a half ago, I lost one of my sisters to a ravenous breast cancer. I was able to keep myself at peace and more importantly, because I was at peace I was able to be there to help her find peace and to help her step into or away from the pain as needed.

All things in life are steps towards something else. I look back and can clearly see how taking classes and then the teacher training lead to my becoming the new owner of Karuna Yoga and Dance Studio in October 2006.

Jessica McNeil, University Student and Yoga Teacher Montreal, PQ

Graduated Summer 2004

The teacher's training program at MokSana was invaluable to me and I have made back and over the money that it cost me to take the course.

I moved to Vancouver shortly after graduating from the teacher training course and started to help put together a yoga program for Autistic kids through the Langley School District. I also taught at a community center in Chilliwack.

I still look through my notes (ones from observing the excellent teachers at MokSana) and references on adjustments.  I had compiled 'ideas for classes' throughout the training that I continue to use as reference

I really can't thank you guys enough and I can't say enough good things about the course.
